World Book Day - 5 March 2026

World Book Day is all about celebrating the stories that shaped our childhoods, and this year there’s an extra reason to get excited. Tickets for The Magic Faraway Tree are now on sale at The Light!

Here’s a whistle-stop tour of some of our favourite page-to-screen favourites - perfect inspiration for your next family movie night.

The Magic Faraway Tree

Based on the beloved classic by Enid Blyton, this magical adventure brings the famous tree (and its ever-changing lands at the top) to life on the big screen from Friday 27 March. Expect wondrous worlds, unforgettable characters, and a big dose of nostalgia for grown-ups who grew up with Moon-Face and friends. A perfect World Book Day treat - and tickets are on sale now.

Paddington

From the stories by Michael Bond, these films are bursting with heart, hijinks and marmalade. Sweet, silly and always emotional, they’ve become modern family classics.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson’s stylish take on Roald Dahl’s classic is clever, quirky and endlessly rewatchable. With its distinctive animation and sharp humour, it proves that children’s stories can be wonderfully sophisticated too.

The Iron Giant

Based on The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, this animated gem is a heartfelt tale of friendship between a boy and a giant robot. Funny, touching and powerful, it’s one of those films that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Matilda

The 90s classic adaptation of Roald Dahl’s brilliant book is mischievous, magical and super quotable. Despite those terrifying Trunchbull moments, it’s a childhood favourite that still delights today.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Adapted from the bestselling novel, this is the film that invited us all to Hogwarts for the first time. Wands at the ready - it’s still pure movie magic.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

From C.S. Lewis’s timeless fantasy, Narnia gave us epic battles, talking animals and one unforgettable wardrobe. A snowy adventure that still feels wonderfully grand.

Little Women (2019)

Based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, this warm adaptation from director Greta Gerwig brought the March sisters to a new generation. Full of heart, ambition and sisterly spirit, it proves that some stories are simply timeless.

Plus we have these not to-be-missed great book adaptations coming out later in the year!

There’s something extra special about seeing a story you once read under the covers brought to life on the big screen - especially when you’re sharing it with the next generation of book lovers.

So this World Book Day, swap the bookmark for a cinema ticket - join us at The Light for a magical family adventure.
